First Moon Circle

A playful education session that honours the first period as a rite of passage—and gives girls practical knowledge, confidence, and self-care tools for the journey into adolescence.

Gifting wisdom, confidence, and self-care tools

A happy, healthy entry to menstruation and puberty.

First Moon Circles are an empowering alternative to traditional period education, bringing together craft, honest conversation, practical learning, and a special parent–daughter celebration.

Begin at the beginning

What is a First Moon Circle?

First moon is another name for a person’s very first period—their menarche.

A First Moon Circle is a group education and celebration of this important rite of passage. It is a sacred, love-filled, and—most importantly—fun space for young girls and children who will have periods to gather, learn, make, laugh, and feel supported.

Whether a participant has started their period, has not bled yet, or is simply hearing friends talk about it, the circle helps them feel proud, informed, and ready to support themselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually as they grow.

The circle experience

What happens at a First Moon Circle?

The gathering unfolds in two parts: time for the children to learn together, followed by a joyful celebration with the people who love them.

Part01

A two-hour experience for the group

Periods, puberty & cycles

We come together to have fun, be silly, make new friends, and learn accurate, age-appropriate information about physical changes as well as emotional and inner wellbeing around menarche.

Children explore:

  • What periods and puberty are, and what changes they may notice in their bodies and emotions
  • An age-appropriate introduction to hormones and the reproductive system
  • The four stages of the menstrual cycle—and how energy, strengths, and needs can shift
  • Simple self-care tools for rest, big feelings, and the premenstrual phase
  • Body- and earth-friendly period products, with time to explore different options
  • An open invitation to ask every awkward, curious, or hard-to-say question
Part02

A celebratory afternoon tea

Celebrating with our loved ones

Mums, nanas, and carers join the circle to hear what the children have discovered. Elders are invited to share positive guidance and beautiful wishes for the girls as they grow.

The celebration helps us:

  • Make open conversations about periods and puberty feel safe and ordinary
  • Help parents and carers affirm the learning and keep personal conversations going at home
  • Invite loved ones to share positive wisdom, guidance, and wishes for the children
  • Give participants the proud role of sharing their new knowledge with the adults
  • Celebrate this transition as natural, healthy, meaningful, and powerful

What stays with you

A circle overflowing with lasting value.

The experience supports the child and their grown-up together, creating a shared foundation for the conversations and changes still to come.

01

Knowledge becomes confidence

Participants leave with a clearer understanding of what is ahead, what is normal for them, and how to care for themselves with more ease.

02

Conversation opens up

Children and their grown-ups gain shared language for talking about periods, puberty, feelings, and whatever questions come next.

03

Sisterhood takes root

Friends who attend together share an affirming experience they can return to—and a kinder way to support one another.

04

Parents feel supported too

Grown-ups receive language, tools, and reassurance for supporting their child through puberty with warmth and honesty.

Gather your circle

Give them the support you wish you’d had.

Ask about upcoming dates, gather a group of friends, or bring a First Moon Circle to your school or community.
